Australis Diamond Beach
by: Sally Macmillan

Going back to those old beach holidays of yore Sally Macmillan discovers a classic Aussie holiday gem on the NSW mid North Coast.
It's just like the beach shack holiday of yore: kids ... running free; zooming round on bikes and scooters; cozzied and flip-flopped up, towels over shoulder and with zinc-creamed noses, threading their way through the resort village to beach or pool; instantly making new friends to play cricket on improvised pitches. Parents ... taking turns at beach and pool supervision; a communal lunch barbie poolside or inviting the neighbours to an evening one on their deck. Welcome to Australis Diamond Beach near Forster- a reinvention of the great Aussie family beach holiday where kids cavort safely and Mum and Dad, Grandinum and Grandpop can truly chill out.

Chifley Penrith Panthers
As part of Western Sydney, the Penrith Valley is alive with tourism offering excitement for the whole family. Chifley Penrith Panthers is the ideal base for your break and has recently undergone a full refurbishment. The newly appointed rooms have stylish decor and state of the art facilities so you can be rest assured that your stay will be both comfortable and relaxing.
Experience all that the city has to offer from the foothills of the Blue Mountains to the outskirts of the Hawkesbury Valley.
The spectacular Nepean River at Penrith is one of the region’s primary natural attractions. It is not surprising to discover that water based recreation is a key focus within the area. The Nepean River is also a great place for fishing, swimming or simply enjoying a relaxing picnic on the river bank with family and friends.
One of the region’s icons is the Nepean Belle, an old style paddle steamer which can regularly be seen touring the river. The Nepean Belle offers lunches, dinners, morning and afternoon teas as you cruise along the stunning Nepean Gorge.
With so many water recreation areas, it’s no wonder that Penrith was awarded as the host city for the Sydney 2000 Olympics rowing and canoeing. Sydney 2000 Olympic events were held at the new Sydney International Regatta Centre north of Penrith just four kilometres along Castlereagh Road. The centre is open to the public daily with many picnic locations, walks a well as a cycling track around the rowing lake.
The Penrith Whitewater Stadium was also completed for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, the first of its' kind in Australia.
Looking for a little excitement? Need some action to spice up your life? Just a hop, skip and a jump from the centre of Penrith you’ll discover sensational sporting complexes plus a bounty of blood-pumping activities to whet your appetite.
Go canoeing along the beautiful Nepean River or, if you’re feeling a little more energetic, experience the electrifying rush of whitewater rafting at the brand-new Penrith Whitewater Stadium. For those who can’t get enough of the water, there are swimming centres with indoor and outdoor pools, as well as waterskiing and even aqua golf!
The pristine bushland of the Blue Mountains beckons campers and bushwalkers alike. You can take a leisurely horse ride through the National Park, or get the pulse racing by rock climbing, abseiling, canyoning or mountain biking. And if you drop by the awe-inspiring Jenolan Caves, you can even have a go at caving.
If your idea of a perfect day out is to play a round of golf, there are five top-class courses to choose from. You can also play tennis, visit a fitness centre, or go for a ride along one of the many dedicated cycle ways. If you prefer to watch others struggle under the strain of physical exertion, you can always take in a game of rugby league, cricket or basketball, or cheer on your favourites at the Penrith Paceway.
To catch a breath taking view of the Nepean Gorge, take a drive along Mulgoa Road to the historic Mulgoa Valley. On the right you will come across Fairlight Road. A further eight kilometre drive followed by a short work will lead you to The Rock Lookout. For those who feel a little more energetic you can also take a 30 minute walk to Riley’s Mountain Lookout where you will capture stunning views of the lower Blue Mountains.
Penrith and Emu Plains also offer three riverside reserves, these being Weir Reserve, Tench Reserve and Regatta Park, ideal locations for a picnic or barbeque. Just 15 minutes south of Penrith in Wallacia you will also find another riverside picnic area, Blaxland Crossing Reserve.
South past Wallacia is the small village of Warragamba. Here you will find the junction of the Warragamba and Nepean rivers as well as Warragamba Dam. The dam is a great attraction offering educational tours and picnic facilities. Warragamba Dam is of great importance as it supplies the majority of Sydney’s water. Further south of Wallacia is another riverside recreation area – Bents Basin Recreation Area.
